With our recent move into a new building next door, we are proud to announce some facility updates that help us recycle materials and cut down the cost and use of electricity. Our new building is equipped with insulating window coverings that improve our temperature control and electricity usage. New air handlers help us improve our air quality by pulling fresh air from the outdoors and filtering indoor air. We’ve also invested in some new machines that allow us to recycle and reuse our fluids and oils and decrease our use of filter cartridges, while decreasing energy use too! Our production and custom shops have outgrown their current home and will be moving into a larger building right next door to us. The move will start Friday, February 22, with a scheduled end date of Friday, March 15. This move will not affect the shipment of stock items, but custom work will have longer lead times during these 3 weeks. Thank you for all your support over the past 25 years. This expansion wouldn’t be possible without you!

Please note that we will be CLOSED December 22nd – 26th to celebrate Christmas with our friends and families. We will also be closed December 29th – January 1st in celebration of the New Year. We had the wonderful opportunity to be a sponsor for the 2012 AIARE Design Awards. The AIA Redwood Empire held their awards gala on Saturday October 27th at the Kaiser Air Hanger in Santa Rosa. We designed and built 10 award displays with StandOff edge grips and StructureLite components to showcase the project entries. There were 37 entries, and 227 attendees for the evening, raising roughly $8,000 for the local AIA chapter. We were thrilled to be involved in recognizing architecture excellence in built environments throughout the Redwood Empire region.

Happy Halloween from Gyford! Today our employees brought in carved and decorated pumpkins for a little competition. We had very creative entries, including Professor Guy Ford (from our homepage), Jack Skellington, and our StandOff icon brought to life (aka the Canman). In order to stay aligned with our company's continued growth and to increase operational efficiency, we are relocating our manufacturing operation to a new and larger (15,000 sq ft) facility. This new building is conveniently located next to our main building. Our custom machine shop has already successfully moved to the new facility with the rest of our manufacturing operations to follow in December. This change allows for an inventory and shipping expansion, which will remain in our current building along with customer service, technical support, and administration. It gives us great satisfaction to be able to make improvements in our company that add value to our product and continue to provide our clients with infinite design solutions. We are expanding operations and our custom machine shop will be closed as we make the move to our new facility. Directly following the move, our offices will be closed for Labor Day. Custom orders will not be available between Monday, Aug 27th and Monday, Sept 3rd. Please make sure you take this into consideration when placing your orders. As part of our continuous improvement and sustainability commitment, we have replaced two older CNC machines with a new, larger capacity machine that allows us to perform multiple operations at once. By eliminating the need for additional operations on other equipment, we have increased productivity and decreased the amount of energy required to manufacture our products. The new CNC Turning Center comes with a waste removal device, which not only helps us recycle the used fluids, but also provides a safer work environment for our operators. Our manufacturing manager, George Lacombe, has been with Gyford Productions for 10 years and continues to bring innovative ideas to the forefront of our manufacturing operations.

The July issue of A&E (Awards & Engraving) featured manufactures in the United States that are creating great products for the awards industry, and Gyford StandOff Systems® was one of the highlighted manufactures that operate solely in the USA. These beautiful chess pieces were manufactured from scrap aluminum that Gyford Productions donated to the Manufacturing Technologies program at Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC). In December of 2010, the team at Gyford Productions came together and adopted a family in need through The Children’s Cabinet of Reno. We called our mission the “Caring Tree”. We collected toys, books, clothing, household items and other useful gifts. It was such a phenomenal experience that we have done it again this year! Thank you to our team for making our family’s holiday dreams and wishes come true. We hope to have filled their hearts with love and caring during this giving time. Additionally, we reached out to our community by collecting food for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, which helps feed hungry families in the Reno/Tahoe region. What are we celebrating? The growth of Gyford and our award winning team! Gyford recently acquired a neighboring 15,000 square foot facility to expand its operations in which we hosted our first “Gyford Grill” for employees. Parents interact with materials donated by Gyford StandOff Systems® to the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) Early Head Start Program. The program provides high quality, comprehensive early care and education services to families living at or below poverty guidelines. Open-ended play materials provide opportunities for infants and toddlers to use their creativity and show how they understand their world. Play with these materials promotes problem solving skills, social skills, language skills, and integrates knowledge of math, science, and language arts.
